Lacey rush hour power outage creates string of accidents and fires

LACEY, WA – Lacey Fire District 3 firefighters were dispatched to a report of wires down at the intersection of Martin Way & Kinwood Street just before 5:30 pm on Thursday evening. The wires had sparked a small fire in the brush next to the THC of Lacey building.

This caused an hour-and-a-half long outage that caused at least 6 accidents in the area, as well as a commercial structure fire at the Tranquility Dental building on Freedom Lane. The power outage had caused electrical equipment to short out, causing smoke from the building which prompted employees at the neighboring Sherwin Williams to call 911.

Several grocery stores, including Walmart, lost power. Massive traffic jams were the result.

Power was restored in the area around 7:00 pm.
