Lacey Police say that the suspect in Monday’s shooting of two women, kidnapping of two children, and police pursuit with the children in the vehicle remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center. He has been identified as Ricardo Gardin-Gonzalez, 32, of Lacey, according to our sources.
Around 4:30 pm yesterday, police were dispatched to Crimson Ct SE in Lacey for a report of a protection order violation. When police arrived, they discovered that Gardin-Gonzalez had shot and killed his estranged ex-wife and her mother, and fled with his children.
He led police on a pursuit down I-5 and onto US-101, while opening fire on police. Police did not return fire or attempt to stop the pursuit (with a pit maneuver) because there were children in the vehicle. They did deploy spike strips, but they were unsuccessful.
The chase ended at the Toyota dealership at the Olympia Auto Mall where Gardin-Gonzalez shot himself in the throat. The children were recovered, unharmed. One is reported to be a toddler and the other a teenager.
The investigation is ongoing. The Thurston County Critical Incident Team is investigating the Olympia scene, and the Lacey Police Department is taking the lead at the Crimson Court murder scene.
