According to scanner reports, three different brush fires caused havoc on I-5 in Thurston County today.
The first fire was in the median near Exit 111 at Marvin Road. This fire was nearly two acres long and caused lanes on the freeway both directions to be closed for nearly two hours. It was ignited by sparks off the rim when a tractor-trailer blew a tire.
The second brush fire was near Grand Mound, near Exit 88. This fire was extinguished within 40 minutes and lanes were not closed. It was dispatched at 3:36 pm.
The third fire was near Exit 114 in Nisqually. This was a minor fire and it was extinguished quickly.
