The Elma Police Department, located 10 miles west of Thurston County in Grays Harbor County, is asking for the public’s help in locating a bank robber.
The robbery occured at 4:45 pm Thursday afternoon when a man entered Anchor Bank, on S. 3rd Street, displayed a gun, and demanded money. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Witnesses said the man entered with dark cloth covering his face. He is described as 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.
Officers from the Gray’s Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, Elma Police Department, Montesano Police Department, Hoquiam Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Department of Parks responded to the area and attempted to track the suspect. He was not located.
“We’re doing neighborhood canvasses, we have several people who saw the individual,” said Elma Police Chief Susan Shultz. “We’ve got some pretty shook up tellers,” she said. “We’re working with them to get through it.”
