When Lacey Fire District 3 was dispatched to the 4700 block of 39th Court SE around 4:30 am on Saturday morning for reports of a structure fire, they had a hard time figuring out where the fire actually was.
It wasn’t your typical fire, Battalion Chief Pat Harn said Sunday.
It was hidden, he said.
The house was filled with a light haze, but there was no sign of a fire. They put some technology to use that showed the fire, thought to have started near a furnace, was burning only in the walls and ceiling. That led fire crews to dig through the structure to extinguish the blaze.
A resident thought they smelled something funny around 4 hours before the smoke alarms actually went off and they called the fire department.
No one was injured. Olympia Fire and East Olympia Fire also responded to the scene.
